Archie Comics today announced a new upcoming one-shot horror anthology…just in time for Valentine’s Day! Likes Jughead hunger or Afterlife with Archie, the new title will combine iconic Archie characters from all ages with horror tropes, creating a mix that goes together like peanut butter and chocolate. Per a press release, the issue will center around Betty Cooper, known for 80 years as the girl next door who has a ready-made solution to every problem, may have finally found her match in Chilling Adventures presents Betty: The Final Girl, a one-shot anthology from the popular Archie Horror imprint. A love letter to slasher films and horror in general, the comic features two custom-made opening covers by Laura Braga and Megan Hutchison celebrating the archetype of the heroic girl.

Betty: The Final Girlin Matte Hermès colors and Jacques Morelli lettering, launches February 15 in Pictured stores nationwide and is available for pre-order now.
The most popular trope in the series’ subgenre, “The Last Girl” is the clever survivor who carries a relentless plot across the finish line, taking it to the bad guy in the final scene. Author Mikol Osto (Fear of funAnd the Riverdale: The Links That Connect) I immediately turned to Betty when I thought of marrying this genre with Archie’s core cast of characters.
“I’m a big fan of horror, and I’ve been obsessed with how well Archie can incorporate different styles, levels, and aesthetics of horror into their Archie Horror library,” said Mikul. “And while I don’t have a *single* scary favorite movie or book, I’ve always been fond of the ‘Last Girl’ trope. It just struck me that Betty would make a great Last Girl: blonde, kick-ass, capable!”
Mikul’s Framing Story, “Rosemary’s Babysitter” with art by Laura Braga (Venus 666), takes Betty and Veronica to a secluded mountaintop chalet for a weekend of skiing. When Betty is left alone, her mind begins to race and dangers appear around every dark hallway and every creaking door. Each new horror introduces a new story starring a different girl from the Archie Comics slate: “Be Mine or Die” by Casey Gilley (The return of the chilling adventures in magic) and Natalie Nardosa (Gemini crisis), and “Melody’s Next” by Sam Maggs (decisive role) and Carola Borelli (Deadliest bouquet).
When Mikul Osto first pitched the idea of doing a ‘last girl’-style story with Betty as the last girl with a name, I was immediately interested; the ‘last girl’ idea is too synonymous with horror to be ridiculous.
